When company assets are unorganised it creates many problems. So it’s important that you have a solution to ensure that your assets are clearly organised and easy to manage too. Microsoft field service is one of the solutions helping businesses to understand your assets and manage them accordingly.
Recently, Microsoft has added this functionality in Dynamics 365 Field Service. This system allows you to organise asset management functionality to work for you. Field Service now offers support for scenarios regarding servitization, business model, rental equipment, and work order management for the manufacturers. Further, the same features allow you to create work orders for assets, even if both work orders and assets have different accounts.
Key Features of Asset servicing with Dynamics 365 Field Service
Asset management allows you to maintain the list of serviceable items related to the service location. You can record the information, check the sub-assets of every asset, and the hierarchy of assets becomes manageable. In short, the whole life cycle flows with the process between Dynamics 365 Field Service and Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management.
The functionality of the system uses a common data service, and organizations can leverage the combined capabilities of Asset Management and D365 Field Service – managing both the internal and external assets.
This feature allows you to keep the account of assets, set the functional location, and relate it to the end customer. Then create work orders for the account in the possession and select the asset and location.
There are two different instances where rentals come into play. One is the company in the rental business but also selling services. They will have to create an account for one asset that they rented from another company. Then, they use the system so that they can keep account of an asset and create work orders against it.
The second scenario is the company owns the product and rents it further to the customer. They can store a physical location as a functional location. In this case, the company will have an account to manage the account that rented the asset. Moreover, the work order address will come from the functional location. You can disable the asset validation, and the account will remain the true power of the asset.
Many customers are always in need of more flexibility in assigning work orders for assets. So, they can request the same asset throughout life.

In some cases, businesses don’t have any record of their assets once they are sold. Some other scenarios show that businesses keep the records of all the assets. In either case, you will need to create a work order. Field Service will update the asset and link it with a new account. With this feature, if the account of the asset does not match the account on the work order, you can update the account with one click if it shows the prompt.
Example of asset management in the manufacturing industry:
Let’s take an example of customer asset functionality for a better understanding. Here we have a hierarchy for Air conditioner.
How the AC works?
The main asset is the air conditioner, but the other parts of the AC are sub-assets. Now, every sub-asset has its functionality and businesses with the D365 Field Service meaning one can easily manage these assets and their information, linking them to supply and chain functionality.
